Practicalities & Frequently Asked Questions
Beginning therapy is a significant step. We aim to make the process as clear and accessible as possible by answering common questions about our practice and sessions.
How do I start therapy with the collective?
The first step is to browse our therapist profiles, send a general enquiry, or fill out a quick 'help me choose' questionnaire. We offer a brief initial consultation, either online or via telephone, to ensure we are the right fit for your needs.

What are your fees for sessions?
Fees vary between individual therapists and session formats (individual, couples, or group work). Detailed pricing is available on each therapist's profile.
Do you offer online or in-person sessions?
We provide both. In-person therapy takes place in our quiet, confidential rooms in Eastbourne. Online sessions are conducted via secure online platforms.
How long is a therapy session?
Standard individual therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. The duration of group work is usually 2 hours, couples therapy sessions are 60 minutes; these details can be tailored and clarified during an initial conversation to meet your personal needs
What happens after I enquire?
After you get in touch, a member of the collective will aim to respond within one working day. We’ll talk through what you’re looking for, answer any questions you may have, and help you think about which therapist may feel like the right fit.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is an essential part of ethical therapy. Your therapist will not discuss you or the details of your work together outside of the therapeutic setting, except within clinical supervision, where your therapist reflects on their work with another qualified professional who is also bound by confidentiality.

There are some limited exceptions, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where there is a legal or safeguarding obligation. Your therapist will explain confidentiality clearly at the beginning of your work together.
What if I’m not sure which therapist to choose?
Choosing a therapist can feel difficult, and you do not need to work this out alone. You are welcome to complete our short Help Me Choose form, and the collective lead will read through your responses and suggest one or two therapists who may be a good fit.

If you are considering more than one therapist, you can also get in touch with any questions. Where helpful, we can arrange a free 15-minute introductory conversation with the therapist or therapists you are interested in.
What if my therapist doesn't feel like the right fit?
Finding the right therapist matters. Sometimes it can be helpful to speak with your therapist directly about how things are feeling, and all of our therapists would welcome this conversation with care and openness.

We also understand that this may feel difficult or uncomfortable. If you would prefer not to raise it directly, you can complete our feedback form at any point. This will be read by the collective lead or clinical supervisor, who can help you think through your options and, where appropriate, support a thoughtful transition to another therapist within the collective.

Our therapists understand that no one therapist will be the right fit for everyone. You will not offend anyone by saying that something does not feel quite right. Helping you find a therapeutic relationship that feels suitable for you is an important part of how the collective works.
How do payments work?
Once a session has been arranged, South Downs Therapy Collective will email you a payment link. We ask that sessions are paid at least 24 hours in advance, as this helps confirm your appointment time and keep the booking process clear.

If a payment is missed, we may need to pause further sessions until the outstanding payment has been made.

If you would prefer not to pay by payment link, please let us know. In some circumstances, cash payments may be arranged.
Do you offer low-cost therapy?
Yes. Our qualified therapists may be able to offer concessionary rates where available, including for trainee therapists, students, or those experiencing financial constraint.

We also offer a low-cost therapy service with trainee therapists who are in the later stages of their professional training. Trainee therapists work under regular clinical supervision, and this can provide a more affordable way to access therapy where suitable.
Do you offer crisis support?
Our therapists are experienced in supporting people through very difficult periods, including times of crisis. However, South Downs Therapy Collective is not a crisis support service and we are not able to provide emergency or out-of-hours care.

If you feel you are in crisis, we recommend contacting your GP, calling NHS 111 and selecting the mental health option, or contacting your local NHS crisis service. In Sussex, this is also known as the Sussex Mental Healthline.

If you feel at immediate risk, or you do not feel able to keep yourself or someone else safe, please call 999 or go to A&E.

Therapy can sometimes work alongside crisis support, but it should not be relied upon as the only source of support during a serious or immediate crisis.
