A thoughtful, relational approach to therapy
We take a relational, person-centred approach to therapy. This means we believe meaningful change is most likely to emerge through the quality of the therapeutic relationship, rather than through techniques, advice, or quick solutions alone.

At the centre of our work is the belief that people need to feel genuinely understood, respected, and met as a whole person. Therapy is not about being told what to do, or being treated as a problem to be fixed. It is a space where you can begin to make sense of your experiences, patterns, relationships, feelings, and choices in a way that feels steady and supported.

Because the relationship matters so much, we also believe that finding the right therapist matters. Rather than asking you to work this out entirely on your own, we take an active role in supporting that process. This may involve thinking carefully about what you are looking for, what kind of support may feel helpful, how you tend to relate to others, and what qualities in a therapist may help you feel safe enough to speak openly.

You are not expected to get it right first time. Sometimes the right fit becomes clearer only after therapy has begun. If something does not feel quite right, or if your needs change over time, we can help you think through the next step.
Â
Where appropriate, and with your consent, this may include moving to another therapist within the collective, with a careful handover so you do not have to start again from the very beginning.

Our role is not just to offer therapy. It is to help you find the right therapeutic relationship: one that feels thoughtful, respectful, and well suited to where you are now.
Continuity of Care
As a collective, we want clients to feel supported throughout the therapy process, not only at the point of enquiry. Everyone who begins therapy through South Downs Therapy Collective will be given a feedback link, which can be used at any point to share how the service is feeling.

Feedback forms are reviewed by the collective lead, except where the client is working directly with the collective lead as their therapist. In those cases, an alternative feedback link will be provided so feedback can be shared with the collective's clinical supervisor instead.

You can choose whether your feedback is shared with your therapist or kept within the feedback process. This gives you a way to raise concerns, ask questions, or reflect on whether the therapeutic fit feels right, without feeling pressured to speak directly to your therapist before you are ready.

Alongside this, all therapists within the collective undertake regular supervision, helping them reflect on their work and consider whether your needs are being well met. Sometimes, through therapy, feedback, or supervision, it may become clear that another therapist within the collective could offer a different kind of support.

If this happens, it would be discussed with you carefully and respectfully. Any suggestion to consider another therapist would only be made in service of your care. Any change would only happen with your consent, and the final decision would always remain with you.

Where a change is agreed, we can support a careful handover so you do not have to begin again from the very beginning. Our aim is to help your therapy feel steady, supported and responsive to your needs.
